WordPress what is it?
WordPress is an open source Content Management System (CMS) or Content Management System (CMS) founded in 2003. According to 2022 statistics reported by W3techs, WordPress represents more than 43% websites worldwide. That is more than 64% of market share.
By way of comparison, Shopify, which ranks second on the podium, represents only 4.4% of websites in the world.
In addition to the advantage of being Open Source, WordPress includes a huge community on which many developers rely to create increasingly complex sites. Indeed, WordPress can be seen today as a Low Code tool capable of competing with the most prestigious traditional frameworks (Angular, React, etc.) with the use of Web Builder such as Elementor or Divi.
Why host your site with Infomaniak?
When it comes to finding a good web host, there are several factors to consider. This involves firstly defining the country where we want to host the data. Indeed, in addition to the potential performance gain (the closer the servers are, the faster the response time of the servers), certain data centers are subject to different legislation such as the American Cloud Act which authorizes the American state to search in your data in the event of a request from their administration.

Adding your site by choosing a domain
Advanced options
When you choose a domain, you can also configure other aspects of the server in the advanced options by choosing the site directory or PHP version from the server.
By default, the site will be placed in the “sites” directory which is located at the root of the server.
Regarding the PHP version, you must choose version 7.4 to guarantee stability with the plugins and themes installed on WordPress.
In most cases, we recommend choosing the default configuration of the site without going through the advanced options.
Installing the WordPress app

When you install the WordPress application, Infomaniak configures a site for you by default, including the installation of the Divi theme. The DIVI theme allows you to use more than 150 site models (templates) in addition to offering a visual tool to create your pages easily and for free.
However, we do not recommend using the Easy installation and instead recommend the Advanced installation to avoid starting a site with unnecessary elements. Indeed, by choosing easy installation, you will also download images, text and content that you will have to delete later.
In addition, most of the time, you will choose a different theme and plugins than those imposed by Infomaniak.
Connecting to the backoffice of your new WordPress site
To connect to your WordPress site, you can go through the Infomaniak interface or go to the URL of your new site.
The login URL has the following structure:
- sitename.domain/wp-login
- example: www.geek.ch/wp-login
