This tutorial will help you understand how to set up a website with the WordPress CMS on your Infomaniak server.
WordPress is an open source Content Management System (CMS) or Content Management System (CMS) founded in 2003. According to 2022 statistics reported by W3techs, WordPress represents more than 43% websites worldwide. That is more than 64% of market share.
By way of comparison, Shopify, which ranks second on the podium, represents only 4.4% of websites in the world.
In addition to the advantage of being Open Source, WordPress includes a huge community on which many developers rely to make increasingly complex sites. Indeed, WordPress can be likened today as a Low Code tool capable of competing with the most prestigious traditional Frameworks (Angular, React, etc.) with the use of Web Builder such as Elementor or Divi.
When it comes to finding a good web host, there are several factors to consider. This includes first defining the country where we want to host the data. Indeed, in addition to the potential performance gain (the closer the servers are, the faster the server response time), some datacenters are subject to different legislation such as the American Cloud Act, which authorizes the American State to dig into your data in case of request from their administration.

When you choose a domain, you can also configure other aspects of the server in the advanced options by choosing in particular the site directory or PHP version from the server.
By default, the site will be placed in the “sites” directory which is located at the root of the server.
Regarding the PHP version, you must choose version 7.4 to guarantee stability with the plugins and themes installed on WordPress.
In most cases, we recommend choosing the default configuration of the site without going through the advanced options.
When you install the WordPress application, Infomaniak configures a site for you by default, including the installation of the Divi theme. The DIVI theme allows you to use more than 150 site models (templates) in addition to offering a visual tool to create your pages easily and for free.
However, we advise against using the easy installation and recommend the advanced installation instead to avoid starting a site with superfluous elements. Indeed, by choosing the easy installation, you will also download images, text and content that you will have to delete later.
In addition, most of the time, you will choose a different theme and plugins than those imposed by Infomaniak.
